Mark Templeman KC


Mark has wide experience of arbitration, both as arbitrator and counsel, including LCIA, ICC, ARIAS, LMAA, LME, AAA and SIAC arbitrations. He is regularly appointed as sole arbitrator, as chairman or a member of tribunals dealing with insurance, reinsurance, shipping, shipbuilding/conversion and offshore energy-related matters.

He is also a CEDR-accredited mediator, and one of the editors of Arnould: Law of Marine Insurance and Average.

Mark Templeman has appeared as arbitrator or counsel in arbitrations in London, New York, Bermuda, Rotterdam and Singapore.  He took silk in 2003. He practises commercial law, specialising in insurance and reinsurance (marine and non-marine), shipping, sale of goods, commodities, energy and banking disputes.

Insurance and Reinsurance

Experience of disputes involving most classes of marine and non-marine insurance and reinsurance including aviation, CAR/EAR, cargo, hull (including TLO), liability (including P&I), political risk, professional indemnity, property/casualty, personal accident/WCC, KR, satellite, rig and XL (including LMX and PA spiral). Acted in a number of disputes on the “Bermuda” form. Experience of finite risk/ART arrangements.

Arbitration

Numerous arbitrations of all types as arbitrator and counsel, including insurance and reinsurance, shipping, shipbuilding/conversion, sale of goods, commodities and offshore energy-related disputes; both ad hoc, and pursuant to the rules of various bodies including LCIA, ICC, ARIAS, LME, AAA and SIAC.

Shipping

Experience of charterparty and bill of lading disputes, ship sale and purchase, shipbuilding and repair/conversion, ship finance, limitation of liability, and average.

Sale of Goods/Commodities/International Trade

Experience of sale/supply/trading disputes involving numerous commodities including oil and gas, metals (physical and warranties), edible oils, grains and sugar.

Offshore Construction and Finance

Experience of rig building and conversion disputes, associated finance and security transactions and long-term charter disputes.

International Banking/Letters of Credit

Experience of numerous LoC/finance disputes, particularly between issuing, confirming, negotiating and accepting banks, involving various editions of the UCP.
